Nantong Culture and Art Centre are three buildings surrounding a central lake. Inspired by the unique traditions of Nantong, the square-shaped buildings takes cues from the traditional kite and its steamed printed cakes called "Yin Gao".

The roof shape also incorporates the whistle of the Nantong kite, so that they can also emit a pleasant melody when the monsoon wind blows.

南通文化艺术中心虽然远离市中心，却是往来浦东机场必经之路。地理位置和老濠河、新体育场刚好形成一个“三鼎而立”的巧妙布局。从高架桥上瞻望，“南通文化艺术中心”会是视觉上的飨餐，也是入城前一个特出的标记。

 

大剧院、音乐厅和美术馆位于长方形基地的正中央，周围安排了酒店以及会展中心，办公楼和商业设备。园林景观将所有的大小建筑物串联起来，成为一幅完整的画面。艺术中心的三栋大楼围绕着一个中央湖泊，是访客游玩、取景的好去处。整个环境为南通人打造了一个休闲、文娱、运动、游乐的新聚点。

 

艺术中心的设计以南通独有的特色为主要灵感。四方形的建筑既配合场地，同时也塑造出一个原创的屋顶造型 – 既是南通传统的风筝，也是南通常见的印糕。屋顶以许多高矮不同的方块组成，形成传统南通布料的印花图案。屋顶造型也融入了南通风筝的哨子，让建筑在季风吹过时也能发出悦耳动听的旋律。
